January 21st - Iraklion (Crete), Greece

I arrived in Crete this morning and headed inland, driving through the rural
countryside, farms and villages. We were able to pass through or near 21
villages in the space of 30-45 minutes,

The first stop was the Monastery of Kera, begun in 1400. The church was so
tiny I do not think our whole tour group could have been inside at once. At
was once an exit from the church there were frescos depicting the to "remind
on of the terrible things to befall one should they sin."

At one of the villages we were treated to a delicious snack of local foods
and wines at Kourites Restaurant, prepared and served by the Siganos family.

After leaving the restaurant we went to take in the views of the Lassithi
Plateau - was surprised to see snow at the top. Along the way we also passed
a village that was in the process of being flooded to create a reservoir.

This stop in Crete was added to replace Egypt - good call.

The internet has been frustrating since we arrived in Greece making it very
difficult to post the blog.grrrr. I do find it interesting that the signal
is stronger on the crew's connection???
