however, other than the main city, it would be difficult to convince one of
that. This place seems so remote, wild and unforgiving. Even in the outlying
areas of the Shetlands, it is evident that they are more prosperous and
modern. I assume this is because the Shetlands have the benefit of the
income from the oil and gas industry.
The winds here are even fiercer than on the Shetlands, and they both have at
least twice as many sheep as people.
There is something mystical about these two places.
I headed out of town for Vagar Island - there are 18 Faroe Islands, 17 of
which are inhabited. Stopped in a couple of villages along the way.
Today was all about the beautiful scenery.
I often dream about spending a year or two where I stay in each place for
4-6 weeks. Not necessarily tourist spots, but in villages or towns where it
would be possible to get to know the locals and immerse myself into their
way of life. Maybe someday...
