February 14th - Octopus

What an exciting day.

Was in the pool by 9 and it already felt like bath water.

Then I went snorkeling with Karine and Robert. The waters were beautiful.
It is interesting how as you are swimming along you will feel a very cool
current and then a very warm one, almost like someone poured a glass of
water on you.

We swam around the coral beds and saw a lot of pretty fish and creatures
living in and among the coral.

As we were heading back toward home Karine got all excited, she had spotted
an octopus (this one was much larger than the one I held in Bora Bora).
Robert swam back home to get his spear gun. It was pretty cool seeing Robert
nail it and then watching the waters turning black from the ink. Robert had
difficulty getting the spear out, but finally succeeded and took his bounty
home. As we approached the shore Robert was slapping the dead Octopus
against a rock - I of course thought maybe it was not yet dead - but learned
that if you do that it is less likely to be tough after you cook it. Who
knew.

Robert, Karine and their family are truly living off the bounty of the sea.
Guess what they will be having for dinner tonight!
