Mykonos is only 35 square miles and the small buildings were built along a maze of narrow lanes to defy the winds and dis-orient raiding pirates.
We lucked out – the businesses were just starting to open for the soon to be very busy season, so the crowds had not yet arrived. We got to see a group of local kids going from shop to shop and singing a traditional “Happy Easter” song to the shopkeepers. As Allan, Sandra and I were having yet another Greek lunch at Nikos Tavern we got to meet the local mascot – a pink pelican who definitely knows his way around the restaurants and fish markets.
Let me just say – Mykonos did not disappoint – it was just as imagined and just like in the movies. All white and trimmed in blue with lots of sun, winding alleyways filled with houses and shops, and a waterfront lined with cafes so one could sit and watch the world go by.
