April 13th - Salalah, Oman

On this visit to Salalah I headed out of town for a "Lawrence of Arabia"
experience on the 21st century horse - a 4X4 SUV. Our guide, Hamid took us
to the Khadaf Dunes, located on the edge of the Rub Al Khan Desert (the
second largest desert in the world, and the largest area of sand in the
world).

How hot was it? We arrived before noon and the temperature soared to
42C/108F, and it is not even summer yet. The sand was so hot that it burned
my feet through my socks.

Next stop was to the Ubar excavation site, a UNESCO World Heritage site
believed to have once been a busy trading center.

As we headed back to the ship, we made a stop at a frankincense plantation
and for some dancing with our wonderful guides. The one dancing with Wilike
from the ship's excursion desk is in the market for a third wife - luckily
she will be meeting up with her boyfriend when we arrive in Athens.

I think I will be finding sand everywhere for quite some time.

Next port will not be until April 18th when we arrive in Jordan - looking
forward to Petra!
