Drove through the city taking in the sights on my way to Dragoer - said to
be one of Denmark's oldest and quaintest fishing villages. The driver said
that in his 27 years of driving in Copenhagen, this is the worst Sunday
traffic he has ever seen. You will note that the highway was practically
empty, they were all in the city!
Can you count the number of bikes in the lot by one of the metro entrances -
this is just one of hundreds of such lots - not as many as Amsterdam, but
still a lot.
The "CPH Living" barge is Copenhagen's newest hotel. To board and check in,
one simply inserts a credit card and is given access to an available room.
There is a boat next door that serves breakfast to the guests. Pretty cool,
when the season winds down, it can just head further south.
The village of Dragoer (which when pronounced sounds like a cough) did not
disappoint, neither did the weather. Even though the day started out gray,
the sun finally made an appearance and we never got the predicted rain.
This lovely pedestrian village reminded me of a small village in Italy. Had
a great time walking the narrow streets and walkways. Dragoer has been
re-invented numerous times over the years and is still home to many of the
pilots that help ships navigate the waters. The building on stilts is a
replica of the type of lookout once used in the harbor.
I also managed to get a great view of the curved bridge that unites Denmark
with Sweden.
Time to say goodbye to Copenhagen as the ship passes by the "Hamlet Castle"
one last time, and start on the "Viking Passage".
