limestone caves reached after a climb up 272 long steps.
Second stop was the Royal Selangor Pewter factory. The world's largest
Pewter Tankard was on display here - it holds 615 gallons of beer - that is
a lot of beer! My favorite display was the wall of hands of the employees
who have worked at the company five years. This is where the Oscars are
made. Many beautiful items made here were for sale.
We then visited the King's Palace - this is a new one built by the current
king (the old one would not do for him and is now a museum). Since the flag
was up, we were to assume the King was currently in residence.
The lunch/shopping stop was at the Central Market, which used to be the
town's wholesale and retail market for produce - lively place.
Before heading back to the ship we saw Chinatown and the Maariamman Indian
Temple.
The smog and smoke from the open fires here is thick - I think I would need
one of those surgical masks if I lived here. I have included a photo of the
Petronis Twin Towers (seen through the smog). At 1,483 feet tall with 88
floors, it is currently the world's third tallest building.
I was amazed by all of the hi-rise apartment and condominium buildings that
exist here and are under construction - very busy place!
