clearer in this part of the country.
Got off the ship and headed over to Nan Lian Gardens in the Diamond Hill
section of Kowloon. This beautiful, and peaceful garden was built in 2006
adjacent to the Chi Lin Nunnery. It is in the middle of all the hustle and
bustle of the city providing a nice respite from the concrete jungle that
surrounds it.
Got on the subway here and went over to visit Thomas Cheung at Admund
Optical (admundoptical@yahoo.com.hk). If you ever get to this part of the
world and need eyewear, he is your man. He is fast, reliable, has a great
selection to choose from, is very reasonable and can provide one day
turnaround.
Got a new eyepiece for my camera at the Nikon store and headed over to grab
a ferry to Cheung Chau Island. Forty-five minutes later one arrives at a
place very different from Hong Kong and Kowloon. The fishing here is
depleted due to overfishing, but the narrow lanes are filled with tiny
traditional houses and shops, and the waterfront is lined with restaurants
and sidewalk cafes. There are no cars here, but plenty of bicycles and
pedi-cabs.
Did some exploring before going back to Hong Kong and visiting the Apple
Store there. The store is three stories with a glass stairway - I am not in
Kansas anymore. In 2014 I bought an IPad mini here - this time I escaped
without a purchase.
Took the subway back over to Kowloon and checked out the Jade Market and
Night Market along Temple Street. Great people watching and fun to stroll
around the stalls set up every evening. And, since evening was approaching,
"ladies of the evening" were also staking claim to their corners.
Since leaving the ship I had clocked almost eight miles on foot (I think I
got one or two of them just in the terminal), taken a bus, been on the
subways and taken three different types of ferries. Long day, lots of miles,
so decided to take a simple and hassle free taxi back to the ship.
Tomorrow I leave the ship for a few days and fly to Vietnam to travel down
the Mekong Delta.
