This morning our group headed to the Marabar Hill and Banganza Tank areas to
see the bathing ghat and temples.
The source of the water for the ghat is said to be a spring that is an
underground offshoot of the Ganges. This is one of Mumbai's holiest sites.
Ritual bathers believe the mossy waters in this rectangular pool of holy
water have healing powers for the body and the spirit.
Next, we headed to the "Gateway of India", built in 1911 to commemorate the
visit of King George V and Queen Mary. I finally got a good shot of this
from the water. Photos were difficult - there was so much haze.
From the Gateway, we boarded a ferry for an hour long ride to see the
Elephanta Caves. These are a series of caves built between 500-700 AD by
Hindu craftsman on an island off the shores of Mumbai.
Mumbai is so noisy and chaotic, but somehow it all works.
It was really getting warm this afternoon - can't imagine what it will be
like when I return in April!
