The flight into London on Tuesday was direct from Denver, but very long. After arrival and going through customs on Wednesday, the driver was waiting for us and took us to our hotel in London. The Conrad Hilton-St James was lovely. The pod/beds on the plane were better than a regular seat, but nothing beats a real bed.
On Thursday we headed to Southampton to board the Silversea Silver Shadow. It is a smaller ship (390 passenger capacity), definitely not a mega ship. Looking forward to a new sailing experience. We will be able to go into smaller, and for me, many new ports.
Our first port today is Fowey, Cornwall, United Kingdom located where the River Fowey spills into the English Channel. Fowey is on a steep bank overlooking the estuary setting. It is a popular yachting destination with beautiful boats going up and down the river. Supposedly, both Drake and Raleigh sailed from here. Daphne Du Maurier came up on holiday from London and so loved the area, that she moved up here to write.
Took a ride to Polperro - a touristy, but pretty town with gorgeous flowers seeming to grow like weeds. Topped off the day with a stop at The Plantation Tea Room for scones with jam and traditional Cornish cream before heading back to the ship.
