the coast surrounded by mountains.
Saw the bull-fighting stadium, which these days is only used for that
purpose two or three times a year, and instead has become a venue to host
concerts and other events. More and more of the Spaniards feel the sport is
too cruel to the animals.
Headed up to the ruins of the Castle of Santa Barbara, built during the 16th
century and sitting 500 feet above the city.
Next the guide took us down the main part of the city and we took a walking
tour through Old Town and Town Hall Square passing by the numerous inviting
outdoor cafes. We went into the Museo de Fogueres which featured photos and
winning sculptures used during their annual June Festival. They build
hundreds of these paper mache and wood sculptures and then burn them in a
Christian/Pagan ritual to say goodbye to spring and welcome summer.
We also made a stop so Jorge could show off a beautiful Dali sculpture the
city is proud to possess.
The tour ended with time spent on the palm-lined Explanada de Espana and
taking in the sights of the busy Palm Beach.
Our guide, Jorge had us singing on the bus on the way back to the ship. I
felt like a school girl returning from a field trip.
