Malaga, Spain is located on the Costa del Sol (Coast of the Sun) of the Mediterranean Sea. It dates back to 770 BC as one of the oldest cities in the world and now has the second busiest port on the Iberian Peninsula, and has one of the warmest winters in Europe.
Picasso and Antonio Banderas are both from Malaga.
Soon after arrival I was off to Cordoba to visit the sights and Jewish heritage of this historic city. On the two hour ride to Cordoba I saw miles and miles and miles of olive trees and grape vines.
Cordoba was established by the Romans in 12 BC and by 10 BC was ruled by the Muslims. During this time Cordoba became a political, cultural and economic center of the world. Due to the importance of Cordoba at the time, a very large and beautiful mosque was built here. When Catholicism rose to overthrow the power of Islam, rather than destroying the mosque, the Catholic Church built a church inside it.
I had one of the most knowledgeable guides I have ever had the pleasure of touring with. Great experience.
The next two days will be sent at sea while we head toward Malta – hoping for warmer weather.
