After experiencing some very hot weather in Denver, it was time to head to
the hills.
Headed to Estes Park taking the roads less traveled, West through Golden,
and North through Black Hawk. The scenery was spectacular and it was top
down weather the whole way.
Spent some time in and around Estes Park. It was hot and very crowded, but
enjoyed the great people watching and poking my head into the shops. I was
glad to see that the businesses up there seemed to have recovered from the
floods of 2013.
Next up was Rocky Mountain National Park, which is celebrating its
centennial this year. The park boasts 77 mountain peaks with elevations of
over 12,000 feet, and the highest being Longs Peak at 14,259 feet.
No matter how many times I visit this rugged park I come away in awe of its
size and beauty.
This year I was fortunate enough to come upon three herds of elk and one
gathering of "the boys" with their massive racks.
After the time spent in the Park, I headed back home taking another scenic
route through Grand Lake, Granby and Winter Park.
