the town of Hilleroed in the area of Denmark known as North Zealand . Here I
visited Frederiksborg Castle, a fairytale like castle with a moat and
everything. The only thing missing were the knights on Shining Armor and
Ladies in ball gowns. This castle was built in the early 1600s by Christian
IV, using Dutch architects.
Made a quick photo stop at the royal summer residence - Fredensborg Palace,
a hunting palace built in 1719 on the way to the town of Helsingor, a lovely
town to stroll through looking into the many shops and cafes. Here, across
from the harbor, sits the Castle of Kronborg, known as the castle where
Shakespeare's Hamlet was set. Legend holds that, in the catacombs, a massive
sleeping warrior, Holger the Dane, slumbers and on the day that Denmark is
in grave danger, he will arise and save the nation. The skies were blue and
the sun shone brightly, so I think he was sleeping peacefully and having
pleasant dreams today!
Waved goodbye to the Little Mermaid as the ship headed north to Norway.
