Today the ship arrived in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. This is the
oldest capital city in northern Europe and one of Europe's smallest
countries.
The Old Town section with its' well-preserved buildings and Old World feel
has been placed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
It is here in Tallinn that the sailing events were held during the 1980
Moscow Olympics.
Since gaining their independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 the city has
become a busy cruise ship port. Today was no exception, with four large
cruise ships arriving this morning, along with numerous ferries from the
neighboring countries. The warm weather and crowds gave this lovely place a
festive atmosphere.
