February 10th - At Sea

I want to take this opportunity to recognize some of the great people who
have taken care of me in the dining room.

The first gentleman is Mohamad, and he is a true gentleman. He is so formal
and proper, yet I think I have managed to get him to loosen/open up. He has
a knack for making me feel special. He picked up on preferences (and quirks)
at the first dinner. And, he was rooting for the Broncos when they played
the Sea-Chickens. He will be heading home to Jakarta on 2/14 to see his wife
and 16 month old son after spending eleven months at sea. I am sure it will
be quite the home-coming.

The second young man is Eka. He is a delight - so concerned about making
sure everything is all right. He will be here to take care of me for the
duration of my cruise (and train our new server). He is from Bali, so even
though he does not go home until May, he will get to see his wife and three
month old son during our three stops in Bali. One gets the feeling he has an
impish quality to him.

And then there is Jonathan - He pretends to be a dining manager. He always
stops by the table to chat and make sure everything is going well. But, his
real calling is as head celebrant for guests' birthdays. It is fun to watch
him sprint to a table when he hears the waiters signal him for a birthday.
The guests love his special "Happy Dance". His home is Aruba and he will
soon be sailing closer to home in the Caribbean, when he joins the Noordam
in May.

And lastly, there is Farid. There is something magical about his smile - I
swear his eyes twinkle when he smiles. He walks by you, gives you that big
grin and you cannot resist smiling yourself.

Looking forward to the rest of my time on board the Rotterdam!
