Malapahit Kingdom and the friendly Indonesian people.
Visited the Trowulan Archeological Museum with examples of items found in
East Java and encountered numerous school groups enjoying a field day. They
all wanted their pictures taken, and then wanted to take pictures of us with
their friends. Their giddy enthusiasm was a delight.
Other stops included the Segaran Pool, an ancient pool used for recreation
purposes by the Majapahit family and the Pendopo Agung Trowulan.
Along the way we took a walk through a local village and were shown how they
make bricks. The houses in this region were so colorful with the tile floors
and facades.
Everywhere you went in this rural area there was rice being laid out to dry
in the yards, driveways and even alongside the roadways.
Last stop before heading back to Surabaya was lunch at a resort where we
were also given a tour of their plantation where they grew plants that could
cure just about anything - even, cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer's!
This evening as we sail back toward Singapore we will be sailing in the
waters where The Battle of the Java Sea took place in 1942. The entire
Allied Forces Fleet involved in this battle, which included Dutch, British,
Australian and United States ships were sunk here. As a sign of respect,
each time we cross over this graveyard, the ship blows its horn.
