March 7th - Pearls

I have to admit - I finally bought some pearls. I have never liked the grey
ones, but I found a lovely one with a turquoise blue-green hue that was set
in yellow-gold, and it called out to me. It matches my eyes, so I had to buy
it.

The pearls grow in black-lipped oysters, which is why they are called black
pearls, even though they come in a variety of colors. They are grown in
undersea pearl farms in the lagoons here in French Polynesia. The Tahitian
pearl is the biggest export item.

I bought it from Ron Hall's daughter at Island Fashion (where I bought the
swimsuits I did not need). She was a delight to chat with. This time I also
got to meet Ron Hall.

They are such a lovely family and so friendly and welcoming. They never
"sell" you anything; they let you take your time and "buy". So, that is what
I did.

I also got a great recipe for a blue cheese sauce. I can't wait to try it.

The mosaics are from outside their store. Really interesting artwork.
