Experienced my first rain shower today - it only lasted about 15 minutes. I
can't complain since I am in the tropics in the rainy season. They only have
two seasons here - wet and dry, both hot!
I am amazed that they can get so many people on one motorbike. I even saw
one with a family of five!
The tour started at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah which featured life-size
replicas of traditional architecture from each of Indonesia's 27 provinces.
Stopped for a photo stop at their "white house" and the 450 foot tall Monas
National Monument, erected to honor the people's freedom efforts.
We then headed over to Taman Fatahillah Square to visit a museum with
thousands of Indonesian puppets.
The park was teeming with people enjoying their Sunday. I especially liked
the bikes available for rent with matching hats to wear while cycling
through the square.
Had lunch at a local restaurant and had my first taste of goat - could not
tell you what it tasted like since I do not know which dish it was.
The last stop was to the old port of Sunda Kelapa where I saw the Phinisi
schooners, a wind powered commercial sailing fleet that did not look very
sea-worthy. There was a group of little boys here cooling off in the water.
Indonesia has the fourth largest population in the world with 238 million
inhabitants - I think most were out on the streets and in the parks today!
We had a police escort all day to get us through traffic efficiently.
