Our stay in Bar Harbor was short today, but we will be here again on the
return trip for a longer stay.
Took the tender into port and headed up to Acadia National Park on up to
enjoy the beautiful vistas from Cadillac Mountain. This is the highest point
on the east coast of the US, with spectacular views of Frenchman Bay (we
were very lucky that the skies had cleared and the sun decided to make an
appearance).
Next stop was to the Oceanarium to learn all about lobster fishing. "Jack"
was a retired lobster man and very informative as well as entertaining.
Our last stop was at the College of the Atlantic and one of Bar Harbor's
last remaining "summer mansions". The gardens and flowers were glorious. I
had to be dragged away under the threat of being left behind.
The weather this morning did not look promising, but by the time we were
ashore, the sun was shining. Great day.
As I write this I am listening to the ship's fog horns - not a welcoming
sound as we approach Halifax, Nova Scotia (our hoped for port for tomorrow).
When the Titantic went down, Halifax was the closest port and three city
cemeteries serve as the final resting places for passengers of the doomed
Titantic.
