Docked in Barcelona and headed to the airport to fly to Morocco.
After numerous lines, finally made it to the gate to wait to board the
plane. So excited to be going to Casablanca - even the name sounds exotic!
Great memories of Saturday afternoon movies and watching Humphrey Bogart -
yes, there is a Rick's Café, but the movie was shot in Hollywood and the
Café was opened in 2004 by an enterprising American.
Drove into the city and visited the Hassan II Mosque which dominates the
skyline of Casablanca due to its' size and green retractable roof. The main
hall holds 25,000 people and the plaza can accommodate another 100,000. It
is quite impressive sitting on the edge of the sea.
Then we began the journey to Marrakech. I was surprised by all the farms
along the way with the rich fertile fields, abundant with crops.
Finally made it to Marrakech and found our Riad dwelling tucked away
discreetly behind a wooden door in a blind alleyway. At first I thought it
was a little too hidden and discreet as I walked through the maze of
passageways that were too narrow to accommodate a vehicle, but after my
initial panic attack and a little rest I was content in this little gem - it
is amazing what one can find behind some of these doors.
