April 18th - Petra

Originally the ship was going to Egypt, but because of their current
turmoil, that stop was cancelled and a visit to Jordan was substituted. That
was a win-win for me. This was the setting for many scenes in Indiana Jones
and the Last Crusade.

I was really looking forward to this port, and I was not disappointed - what
a place! The walk into Petra was not too hot, but oh that walk back in the
afternoon sun - I clocked about 10 miles here - but it was so worth it!

Petra is more than 2000 years old and is known as the rose-red city. Much
of the city was destroyed by a large earthquake in 363 AD and by the 7th
century its existence was largely unknown except for the local Bedouin
people.

The photos cannot begin to tell the story of this wonderful place, it is
definitely a must see.
