Spent my time here today riding around on the different lines of the
Hop-On-Hop-Off city tour buses.
This city is definitely a place of contrasts - from the lovely medieval
buildings to the stark gray buildings build during the time it was occupied
by the USSR' and the new glass buildings built since Estonia gained its'
independence in 1991.
In the large residential area, where more than a third of the city's
population lives, the skyline is filled with nondescript apartment
buildings.
At one point today, there were as many as five ferries in town - they are
referred to as "booze cruises". Alcohol is very expensive in Finland and
this is a favorite place for them to come and stock up on their liquid
refreshment.
