February 23rd - Makassar, Indonesia

The sail in this morning was lovely - blue skies and sunshine - can't say
the same for the rest of the day. I got to finally experience the "rainy
season" here today (how appropriate, since one of my stops was to a water
fall).

Was greeted as I got off the ship with a traditional welcome dance by some
local children.

Headed to Pasar Market in central Makassar - was great fun until the rains
started. The blue eggs are duck eggs. Also got to see some pretty dazed
chickens waiting to be chosen (and the axe). Many here do not have
refrigeration and hence have to shop daily for their food.

Next stop was North to the Bantimurung Waterfall and Butterfly Museum.

Headed back to Makasar to enjoy some local cuisine (people who know me know
I like my food very hot - this was some of the hottest - and best - hot
sauce I have ever experienced).

Since I am sailing on the MS Rotterdam, the trip would not be complete
without a stop at Fort Rotterdam before heading back to the ship.

Good day - cannot really complain about the rain since this is the first
truly rainy day I have experienced in the "rainy season" on this trip.
