May 16th - The Wild Animal Sanctuary

Today I visited the Wild Animal Sanctuary, a 720 acre refuge for rescued
lions, tigers, bears, wolves and other large carnivores. It is one of the
only places in the United States where you can see prides of African lions
and other large carnivores living freely in open spaces.

They have over 290 animals and it is just 30 miles Northeast of Denver. They
have built a mile and a half of ramps and observation decks where one can
walk above the animals.

During their transition period after first arriving at the Sanctuary, the
animals are kept in large enclosures until they are ready to move into the
large acreage habitats with others of their own kind.

I have wanted to visit here for some time, but never got around to making
the trip. I will definitely visit again.
