Started the trip from Maine with a stop at the location of the original LL
Bean Store, which has been open 24/7 since 1937. It stayed open to
accommodate hunters and fishermen on their way to the Northwood's of Maine.
Said "hello" to "The Indian", and then went on down the road to the DeLorme
Map Store. I felt like a little kid watching this huge globe housed in their
headquarters as it rotated.
Driving into Boston we passed the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown, which
became famous during the revolutionary war (the Americans lost this battle,
but the British suffered horrific losses).
Drove along the Boston waterfront and stopped at Pier 4, opened by Anthony
Athanas in 1963. He immigrated to the US from Albania at 5 years old. The
restaurant is now owned and operated by his four sons.
