January 22nd - Bora Bora, French Polynesia

What a great day in Bora Bora. The water and lagoons here are some of the
most beautiful in the world.
We tendered to shore this morning, and then eight of us hopped on a boat
with one of the local guides. I got to test out the underwater camera that
my son JIII got me for Christmas.
Frist we headed out to look for the sharks - and find them we did. I was the
first one in and one of only three of our group who got in. I think that
earns me a merit badge or something. My guide dubbed me Miss Tahiti - very
thrilling.
Then it was out to swim with the manta rays. They are so friendly. They swim
up and over you looking for food and to have you pet them. An added bonus
was the squid we found and that I got to hold - the ink stained my hands.
Our guide then took us on a water tour around the island, pointing out the
different resorts and sites. He showed us the $10,000 per night bungalow at
the St. Regis - don't think I will be staying there.
We finished up our trip at a private motu where we snorkeled among the
beautiful coral. And, we swam with a very large eel. I did not get too close
- but close enough. Strange looking creatures.
Ended the day watching the sun set as we sailed out heading for Papeete,
Tahiti.
